“Why I Give” is a recurring series of articles about the people who support the University of Georgia Performing Arts Center.
Meet Brad and Vera Tucker. He is retired after 35 years in the automotive sector, having managed dealerships and owned a collision repair center. She is a regent in the Daughters of the American Revolution. This season, they sponsored the November recital by violinist Maxim Vengerov and pianist Polina Osetinskaya. He recalls their initial Performing Arts Center visit.
“Shortly after moving to Athens in 2001, we won tickets to a PAC performance. I distinctly remember sitting in Hodgson Hall for the first time. When Leo Kottke began playing, it was all I could do not to break out in laughter for the joy of hearing such a wonderful performance so close to our new home. In the 24 years since that concert, we have been season ticket holders and performance underwriters every year.
“The Performing Arts Center staff does an outstanding job curating and presenting world-class talent. The offerings are diverse, spanning many genres and eras of music. Truly, there is a performance for almost every taste! The venue is a delight, with two auditoriums offering superb acoustics and visibility. The PAC is a blessing to the Athens community, and we are proud to support its efforts.”
