“There’s an intellectual playfulness to everything that Cécile McLorin Salvant’s velvety voice touches. It rises and falls with authority, striking highs that flutter and lows that grumble and roar. Her wordplay teases, taunts and tests in a way that forces her to not just sing a lyric, but dive into roles with the zeal of a method actor.”—Downbeat

Singer and composer Cécile McLorin Salvant is one of the greatest vocalists of her generation and a true creative force. She won Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album for three consecutive releases and a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, among many other honors. The late Jessye Norman once described her as “a unique voice supported by an intelligence and full-fledged musicality, which light up every note she sings.” Salvant comes to Hodgson Concert Hall at last to perform her glittering interpretations of jazz standards and unearthed treasures from her eclectic repertoire.
