“What the seven-man musical wrecking squad from Austria called Mnozil Brass has tried to do is create a combination circus band, village band, marching band, and vaudeville orchestra. They are virtuosos.” – The Arts Fuse
The Monty Python of the music world combines peerless playing with hilarious physical comedy. For three decades, Mnozil Brass has entertained audiences around the world with a unique blend of classical, jazz and pop — often in the same number. The Austrian group returns to Hodgson Concert Hall Tuesday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. with Gold, a show comprised of fan favorites.
Whether it’s tearing through the “Green Hornet” theme at breakneck speed, singing and playing “Bohemian Rhapsody” or delivering a stratospherically powerful “MacArthur Park,” the seven members of Mnozil Brass can turn on a dime from serious to funny and back. Seeing and hearing them live is an experience like no other — they are true musical superheroes who, thankfully, use their powers for good.
As for the title of this show, Gold, a release from the group notes: “Chemical notation AU, atomic number 79. Frequently found on ring fingers, teeth and Olympic necks, often in leaf-form, less commonly as an LP and sporadically reputed to be found in the Viennese heart.
“And last but not least also on brass instruments.”
Fun in the UGA Presents season continues with George Hinchcliffe’s Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (April 3) and the 11-member vocal group Voctave (May 14), in a program of Broadway and Disney tunes.
For each of these performances, 25 tickets are available for just $25, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Performing Arts Center. Tickets for UGA students are always $10.
