American Ballet Theatre Studio Company Presents Classical Ballet in the Classic City Jan. 31 & Feb. 1

January 17, 2025

Young men and young women stand in a dance studio in front of large windows overlooking a city skyline.

“It’s heartening to see that the state of classical ballet is strong and there are many talented young dancers being nurtured to take their places in the top companies of the world.”—Bachtrack

The American Ballet Theatre Studio Company, the junior company of American Ballet Theatre, trains dancers aged 16 to 21 and prepares them for the rosters of leading ballet companies worldwide. The Studio Company appears at UGA’s Fine Arts Theatre Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb 1 at 2:00 p.m. as part of the UGA Presents season.

Eighty-five percent of current dancers in American Ballet Theatre are alumni of the ABT Studio Company, including 8 soloists and 15 principal dancers, making the Studio Company a tested resource for prime talent. The dozen members of the Studio Company are from Ohio, California, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, South Korea and other locations.

ABT Studio Company serves as an ambassador for American Ballet Theatre by engaging with communities in a range of venues worldwide, performing masterworks of the classical and neoclassical canons alongside contemporary and newly created works. Each season, ABT Studio Company commissions new ballets from emerging and established choreographers.

Repertoire for the Athens performances will include selections from the following (subject to change): new works choreographed by Houston Thomas and Madison Brown; ballets by Brady Farrar and Yannick Lebrun; George Balanchine’s Tarantella; Gerald Arpino’s Birthday Variations pas de deux; the Black Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake; the ABT classic Interplay by Jerome Robbins; and more.
