Ingoma Nshya is an 8-member singing and drumming chorus of women and girls from the central African country of Rwanda. The group has shattered the cultural norms of pre-genocide Rwanda that forbade women from taking part in this profoundly joyful art form. The musicians bring traditional drumming, singing, and chanting to life with energy, enthusiasm, and hopefulness. Led my Rwandan writer/performer/women’s rights advocate Kiki Katese, Ingoma Nshya sheds a light on the plight of women and girls in Rwanda and the possibility of improving their lives through art.
