UGA Presents’ virtual fall season continues throughout the month of October with a variety of online performances and events in Studio HH as well as the first public performance in Hodgson Concert Hall in more than seven months. Most events are free and do not require registration or tickets. They can all be accessed online on the UGA Performing Arts Center’s website, pac.uga.edu.
“These performances and events represent some of the finest musicians and artists of our generation, and we are pleased to bring them to our community at a very unique time in America’s history,” said Jeffrey Martin, director of the Performing Arts Center. “Though we cannot gather in large crowds at the moment, we can still gather virtually to enjoy, celebrate, and recognize the great achievements of the composers, musicians, and theatre-makers who continue to inspire and teach us from afar.”

Artist Series: Cho-Liang Lin, violin
September 30, 3:00 p.m. – October 5, 3:00 p.m.
The third installment of CMS’s Artist Series features violinist Cho-Liang Lin and additional musicians performing works by Foss, Dvorák, and Tchaikovsky. This prerecorded performance includes an artist featurette video and a post-event Q&A with Co-Artistic Directors Wu Han and David Finckel (also prerecorded).
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Front Row: National
Artist Series: Gilbert Kalish, piano
October 7, 3:00 p.m. – October 12, 3:00 p.m.
CMS’s Artist Series continues with pianist Gilbert Kalish and a program of classics by Brahms, Schubert, and Crumb. This prerecorded performance includes an artist featurette video and a post-event Q&A with Co-Artistic Directors Wu Han and David Finckel (also prerecorded). A pre-performance talk by Patrick Castillo will be available beginning at 2:00 p.m. on October 7.
Arts Chat: Wynton Marsalis
October 12, 4:00 p.m.
Nine-time Grammy Award-winning trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and cultural icon Wynton Marsalis visits with Philip Smith – trumpet professor in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and former principal player with the New York Philharmonic – about jazz and classical music in America, creativity, and his outlook for the future.
Peachtree String Quartet
October 18, 3:00 p.m.
Part of UGA Presents’ LIVE! by Georgia series, this performance by four distinguished members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will mark the first public, ticketed performance at the Performing Arts Center in more than seven months. Featuring a program of movements selected from four of Beethoven’s beloved string quartets, limited in-person seating will be available in Hodgson Concert Hall (face coverings and social distancing required). The performance can also be livestreamed from any location on pac.uga.edu.
Tickets for the concert are $40 to attend in person or $15 to watch online and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office, online at pac.uga.edu, or by calling (706) 542-4400. Discounted tickets for the livestreamed performance are available to current UGA students for $6 with a valid UGA ID (limit one ticket per student).
L.A. Theatre Works’ The Rivalry by Norman Corwin
October 21, 3:00 p.m. (available through Dec. 15)
Academy Award nominees Paul Giamatti and David Strathairn star in Norman Corwin’s L.A. Theatre Works’ electrifying audio theatre dramatization of the history-making Lincoln-Douglas debates. This fierce rivalry between rising legislator Abraham Lincoln and incumbent Senator Stephen A. Douglas tackled some of the day’s most passionate and controversial issues – above all, those of slavery and the American concept of freedom. As seen through the eyes of Douglas’s young wife Adele, the play illuminates two of the most charismatic politicians of any era.

October 28, 3:00 p.m. – November 2, 3:00 p.m.
The fifth installment in CMSLC’s artist series shines a spotlight on clarinetist David Shifrin and three seminal works by Mozart, Bassi, and Ellington. This prerecorded performance includes an artist featurette video and a post-event Q&A with Co-Artistic Directors Wu Han and David Finckel (also prerecorded).
