SUMMARY:Brentano String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:For over three decades\, the Brentano Quartet has performed worldwide\, earning acclaim for its probing interpretations and warm\, lyrical sound. Their first visit to UGA in more than twenty years showcases the group’s immense talent across a program of works rooted in classical tragic drama and lamentation. The pieces include early Beethoven inspired by Romeo and Juliet’s tomb scene\, a Mozart quartet likened to Dido’s aria of abandonment\, and a middle-period Beethoven quartet whose slow movement evokes a mourning tree over his brother’s grave. DESCRIPTION:Hailed as a “creator of myths with Houdini-like skills” (Sydney Morning Herald)\, Sandeep Das is among the world’s foremost Indian tabla virtuosos. He made his debut at age seventeen alongside legendary sitar maestro Ravi Shankar\, launching an international career that spans more than three decades. Over the years\, he has collaborated with leading artists and ensembles across the globe\, including Yo-Yo Ma and the Silkroad Ensemble—of which he has been a core member for more than twenty years. \nShastriya Sangeet\, the classical music of the Indian subcontinent\, is renowned for its soul-stirring emotion\, highly-developed melodic system (Raga)\, virtuosic improvisations\, complex rhythms\, and philosophical depth.
