Tim Wells, graphic designer and publications manager of the University of Georgia Performing Arts Center, has won two awards from the University & College Designers Association (UCDA). He received Honorable Mention recognition in the 2022 awards for both the Performing Arts Center’s 25th anniversary branding, including a signature red swoosh, and the 2021-2022 season brochure cover, which features an artist’s conception of the yet to be built Hodgson Concert Hall.

UCDA was founded in 1970 as the nation’s first and only association for professionals involved in the creation of visual communications for educational institutions. Over the years, it has grown to an organization of more than 1000 members throughout the United States and Canada.

The UCDA says its design awards recognize “the best of the exceptional design and creative work done by communication professionals to promote educational institutions (secondary, vocational, or higher education) … These coveted awards are judged by a hand-picked panel of peer jurors composed of designers, design educators, photographers, and illustrators working in or doing a significant portion of their work for educational institutions.”

Wells has been with the PAC for 12 years, following a career in advertising design at a variety of firms including the Bounce Agency (formerly Leslie Advertising) in Greenville, S.C. His duties at the PAC include designing logos, posters, program books, print ads and digital marketing images. This season’s designs are vibrant and photography forward, with a motif of multicolored blocks at the bottom of each piece.

“I am thrilled to see Tim’s work recognized by this esteemed body in this manner. His contributions to the success of the Performing Arts Center’s programs are far reaching, and these honors are well earned and wholly deserved,” says Jeffrey Martin, Performing Arts Center director. “Tim is a creative, thoughtful colleague with an eye for detail that has elevated the Performing Arts Center’s reach both locally and nationally.”

This year’s awards are not the first for Wells, whose 2016-17 season announcement poster won a UCDA Award of Excellence in 2017.
