Pianist David Fung will take to the stage in Hodgson Concert Hall on February 12 for a solo recital as part of the University of Georgia Performing Arts Center’s “Studio HH” concert series this spring.
With a program entitled Tributes, the celebrated concert pianist plays works of homage and devotion. Featured composers and pieces include Florence Price’s “Adoration,” Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s “The Phantom Tells His Tale of Longing,” Reena Esmail’s “Crystal Preludes,” Frederic Chopin’s “Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35,” and two pieces by J.S. Bach: “Capriccio in B-flat Major,” BWV 992, and “Sheep May Safely Graze” from Cantata BWV 208.
Praised for his “ravishing and simply gorgeous” performances in The Washington Post, Fung is widely recognized for interpretations that are elegant and refined, yet intensely poetic and uncommonly expressive. Declared a Rising Star in BBC Music Magazine in 2019, Mr. Fung regularly appears with the world’s premier ensembles including the Cleveland Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, the Israel Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the San Diego Symphony, and the San Francisco Symphony, as well as the major orchestras in his native country of Australia, including the Melbourne Symphony, the Queensland Symphony, and the Sydney Symphony. A member of the faculty of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, this solo piano recital shines a spotlight on one of the most “articulate and stylish” (New York Times) performers of our time.
Mr. Fung’s performance will take place live on Friday, February 12, 7:30 p.m. The performance will also be livestreamed and available on demand for six days online at pac.uga.edu.
The recital will last approximately 60 minutes and will be performed without an intermission. Physical distancing and use of face coverings will be required at all times while inside the Performing Arts Center. Capacity for in-person attendance will be capped at approximately 50 people. A limited number of discounted tickets for in-person attendance or online viewing are also available to current UGA students with a valid UGA ID (limit one ticket per student).
