UGA Presents welcomes internationally acclaimed violinist Augustin Hadelich to Hodgson Concert Hall Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m. Hadelich, celebrated for his phenomenal technique, ravishing tone, and insightful interpretations, will appear in an unaccompanied recital featuring music by Telemann, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, Ysaÿe, Paganini, and J.S. Bach.
Hadelich has performed with all the major American orchestras and internationally with the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Philharmonic, and many more.
The Athens program showcases the breadth of the violin repertoire, from Baroque classics to modern works rooted in jazz and blues. Highlights include:
- Telemann:Fantasia No. 8 in E major and Fantasia No. 7 in E-flat major
- Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson:Louisiana Blues Strut: A Cakewalk and Blue/s Forms
- Ysaÿe:Sonata No. 5 in G major
- Paganini: Caprices Nos. 19 and 16
- S. Bach:Partita No. 2 in D minor, culminating in the monumental Ciaccona
The program offers a survey of the violin’s expressive possibilities—from Telemann’s inventive 18th-century fantasias, to Perkinson’s bold fusion of jazz, blues, and classical idioms, to the legendary virtuosity of Paganini. The evening concludes with Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D minor, whose concluding Ciaccona is regarded as one of the greatest works ever written for solo violin.
MASTER CLASS
Hadelich will work with UGA violin students from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wed., Oct. 1 in the Performing Arts Center’s Ramsey Concert Hall. The masterclass is free and open to the public.
