The Beethoven Monument at the Botanical Garden
May 12, 2020 | 7:30 pm
This concert is presented in collaboration with the Botanic Musicale series at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia.
Chamber Music Athens presents thematically intertwined works by composers who were deeply influenced by Beethoven. Several of them were involved in the unveiling of the Beethoven Monument in Bonn in 1845. In addition to the physical monument, others paid “musical” homage to Beethoven in their own works featured in this concert. Internationally renowened pianist Joseph Kalichstein performs Schmann’s rarely heard Variations on a Theme from Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. Grammy Award winning Parker Quartet plays Schubert’s deeply felt “Rosamunde” Quartet, and individual quartet members are featured in duo and trio works by Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Liszt alongside UGA faculty.
There is a pre-concert reception being held at 6:30pm in the lower level of the Day Chapel. This reception is available to all patrons who purchased a ticket to this event at no additional charge.
