ATHENS, Ga. —  The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will return to Athens March 29 on their Young Masters Tour, showcasing masterworks by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Strauss composed before the age of 30. The performance begins at 3 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall.

The Young Masters program opens with Mozart’s Quartet in G minor for Piano, Violin, Viola and Cello, which Mozart composed when he was 29 years old. The program also includes Mendelssohn’s Quintet No. 1 in A major for Two Violins, Two Violas and Cello, composed when Mendelssohn was only 17. Strauss’s Quartet in C minor for Piano, Violin, Viola, and Cello, composed at 19, concludes the program.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is the nation’s premier repertory company for chamber music with a rotating roster of award-winning artists. The musicians performing on the Young Masters Tour are pianist Gilles Vonsattel, violinists Alexi Kenney and Arnaud Sussman, violists Yura Lee and Richard O’Neill and cellist David Requiro.

The Chamber Music Society’s Athens concert will be recorded for broadcast on American Public Media’s Performance Today, the most popular classical music program in the U.S.

A pre-performance talk will be given by the Chamber Music Society’s Patrick Castillo. The talk begins at 2:15 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall and is open to the public.

Tickets for the concert start at $35 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office, online at pac.uga.edu or by calling 706-542-4400. A limited number of discounted tickets are available to current UGA students for $10 with a valid UGA ID (limit one ticket per student).

The concert is supported Ludwig and Ursula Uhlig. The media partner is WUGA 91.7 and 94.5 FM.

Hodgson Concert Hall and Ramsey Concert Hall are located in the Performing Arts Center at 230 River Road in Athens.
