As you travel to the UGA Performing Arts Center and Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall today\, we urge caution while driving or walking around campus\, as some patchy spots of ice might be present. The covered parking deck will be open (excluding the top floor)\, as will the surface lots.  \n1/30/26\, 3:50 p.m. – We currently expect this performance to take place as scheduled. We are continually monitoring the weather conditions and will notify ticket holders of any changes by email.  \n“He may be the greatest cellist in the world and\, some would argue\, the greatest cellist ever.”—The Washington Post \nYo-Yo Ma’s multifaceted career is a testament to his belief in culture’s power to generate trust and understanding. Whether performing new or familiar works for cello\, bringing communities together to explore culture’s role in society\, or engaging unexpected musical forms\, he strives to foster connections that stimulate the imagination and reinforce our humanity. In celebration of the Performing Arts Center’s 30th anniversary\, the 19-time Grammy Award winner makes a highly anticipated return to Athens for a solo recital of music selected from his vast repertoire. \nAll tickets for this performance include a $30 non-refundable contribution to the Performing Arts Center’s new Arts Impact Endowment. This fund will support the Performing Arts Center’s educational outreach activities for the next 30 years and beyond.

DESCRIPTION:Subaerial Collective is a trio of UGA faculty composer-performers: Adrian Childs\, piano/keyboards; Peter Lane\, bassoon/contrabassoon and technology; and Emily Koh\, double bass/electric bass. Formed in September 2018\, Subaerial Collective champions works that expand the limits of traditional concert boundaries through the use of technology\, reinterpretation of performance practice or re-contextualization of the concert experience. Led by Music Director Wynton Marsalis\, the ensemble maintains a vast repertoire\, from rare historic compositions to new commissions. \nDuke in Africa \nDuke Ellington found deep inspiration in Africa\, travelling with his orchestra to Dakar\, Senegal\, in 1966 to perform at the first World Festival of Negro Arts. This trip led him to compose the Grammy Award-winning Togo Brava Suite. Co-music-directed by JLCO saxophonists Chris Lewis and Alexa Tarantino\, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis celebrates Ellington’s Africa-related compositions and the spirit of his historic trip\, nearly 60 years later.

The company makes a long-awaited return to UGA for an encore presentation of its magical production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Performed by a troupe of 24-inch puppets against a lavish\, miniature stage to beautifully recorded music performed by Broadway actors\, the charm of this old-world tradition comes to life in an unforgettable way. \nPERFORMANCE TALK\nJoin us for a free pre-performance talk by a member of the company in Ramsey Concert Hall prior to each performance from 6:45-7:15 pm.
