Part of UGA’s Signature Lectures. \nABOUT LEA SALONGA \nMultiple award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga is renowned across the world for her powerful voice and perfect pitch. Lea most recently starred on Broadway in Old Friends (alongside Bernadette Peters) after headlining the Los Angeles and London productions. \nLea is best known for her Tony Award winning role in Miss Saigon. In addition to the Tony\, she has won the Olivier\, Drama Desk\, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards. She was also the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway and returned to the beloved show as Fantine in the 2006 revival. On Broadway\, Lea starred in the 2018 Broadway revival of Once on This Island as the Goddess of Love\, Erzulie. The show’s return to the Broadway stage earned a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and also garnered Lea and the cast a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album. She has also been seen on Broadway in Here Lies Love\, Allegiance and Flower Drum Song. \nMany fans of all ages recognize Lea as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine from Aladdin and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II. For her portrayal of the beloved princesses\, the Walt Disney Company bestowed her with the honor of Disney Legend. \nIn addition to her stage and screen credits\, Lea served as a judge on the Philippines hit version of The Voice\, including the ratings juggernaut The Voice Kids. She has released multiple solo albums\, toured the world with legendary popopera quartet Il Divo\, and received rave reviews for her many cabaret engagements\, including a record setting run at New York’s 54 Below. Her latest album\, Sounding Joy | The Holiday Album\, was released by Center Stage Records last November. \nIn her 45-year career\, Lea has performed for six Philippine presidents (from Ferdinand Marcos to Benigno S. Aquino III)\, four American Presidents (George H. W. Bush\, Bill Clinton\, George W. Bush\, Joe Biden)\, and for Diana\, Princess of Wales and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She was honored by Time Magazine as a Time100 Impact Award Recipient and received the Gold House 2023 Gold Legend Award.

Known for his phenomenal technique\, insightful and persuasive interpretations\, and ravishing tone\, he appears extensively on the world’s foremost concert stages. In addition to a robust career as a recitalist\, he has performed with all of the major American orchestras as well as the Berlin Philharmonic\, Vienna Philharmonic\, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra\, London Philharmonic\, and many other eminent ensembles. For his first UGA Presents appearance\, the Grammy Award winner brings a solo program of works by J.S. SUMMARY:Payne Memorial Concert: Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Formed in 1967\, the Academy Chamber Ensemble draws its membership from London’s Academy of St. Martin in the Fields\, the world-renowned chamber orchestra founded in 1958 that is now led by Music Director Joshua Bell. The Chamber Ensemble specializes in the works of the larger-scale chamber music repertoire. For its first visit to Athens since 2012\, the ensemble plans a performance featuring French composer Jean Francaix’s frisky yet delicate Octet. The program concludes with Beethoven’s rich and shimmering Septet in E-flat Major\, Op. 20 — an enormously popular piece in the composer’s own lifetime that is still admired as one of the finest septets ever written. \nFree admission (tickets required). General admission seating. Tickets valid until 15 minutes prior to the start of the performance. \nWILLIAM JACKSON PAYNE MEMORIAL CONCERT\nThe Payne Memorial Concert is named for Dr. William Jackson “Jack” Payne\, former Dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences\, who founded the Franklin College Chamber Music Series in 1978. In honor of his efforts\, the Payne Memorial Concert is presented free to the public once each season. \nPERFORMANCE TALK\nJoin us for a free pre-performance talk by Theresa Chafin in Ramsey Concert Hall from 2:00-2:30 pm. \nRECEPTION\nPlease join us for a complimentary reception with the musicians in the Performing Arts Center lobby immediately following the performance. But you can’t appreciate the man’s virtuosity until you see him up close and live.”—The Arts Fuse\nGroundbreaking banjoist\, composer\, and bandleader Béla Fleck has reconvened the original lineup of the Grammy Award-winning quartet Béla Fleck & The Flecktones\, with pianist and harmonica player Howard Levy back in the fold alongside bassist Victor Wooten and percussionist/Drumitarist Roy “Futureman” Wooten. While all manners of genres come into play — from classical and jazz to bluegrass and African music to electric blues and Eastern European folk dances — the result is an impossible to pigeonhole sound all its own. The Flecktones comprise a meeting of musical minds that remains\, as ever\, utterly indescribable. The band is joined by Flecktones alum Jeff Coffin on saxophone and the Tuvan singing group Alash for this one of a kind holiday program. \n11/18/2025: The previously announced VIP experience for this event has been canceled.
