France’s Baroque supergroup\, Les Arts Florissants\, is joined by extraordinary violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte in a performance commemorating the anniversary of the music’s original publication. DESCRIPTION:“Poised and monstrously talented.”—Philadelphia Inquirer \nBenjamin Beilman is one of the leading violinists of his generation. He has won international praise for his passionate performances and deep rich tone which the Washington Post called “mightily impressive\,” and The New York Times described as “muscular with a glint of violence.” The Times has also praised his “handsome technique\, burnished sound\, and quiet confidence\,” and the Strad described his playing as “pure poetry.” \nBeilman has appeared with major orchestras like the Philadelphia Orchestra\, Rotterdam Philharmonic\, and Zurich Tonhalle\, and is on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music. He is dedicated to contemporary music\, with new works by Frederic Rzewski\, Gabriella Smith\, and Jennifer Higdon\, among others. He performs on the 1740 “Ysaÿe” Guarneri del Gesù\, on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation. \nHe made his UGA recital debut in 2014 and maintains an active and illustrious career as a recitalist and musical collaborator—recently touring the United States with the Berlin Philharmonic. \nTaiwanese-born pianist Gloria Chien has one of the most diverse musical lives as a noted performer\, concert presenter\, and educator. She made her orchestral debut at the age of sixteen with the Boston Symphony Orchestra with Thomas Dausgaard\, and she performed again with the BSO with Keith Lockhart. She has performed at the UGA Performing Arts Center on two previous occasions in collaborative performances with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and with Anthony McGill. \nThis performance replaces the previously announced concert by the Tetzlaff Quartet.

SUMMARY:Athens Choral Festival
DESCRIPTION:On June 1\, 2024 it was my distinct privilege to conduct the Mozart Requiem at Carnegie Hall in New York City\, with an assembled chorus of 150 singers from 17 states around the country. That group gave a spectacular performance of that great work.  In the weeks that followed the idea to perform another concert in Athens with that group began to be considered.  An invitation was sent and 70 singers from 10 states have accepted\, and are coming to perform in Hodgson Hall for this special event.  The music to be performed is Mozart – Solemn Vespers and Forrest – Lux: The Dawn From on High.  Both are great works by great composers.  The Vespers are bright\, melodic\, rhythmic\, and exciting\, pure Mozart.  Lux is more personal\, but with much contemplation and exultation\, employing sweeping phrases and beautiful melodies.  Please join us — both pieces are music you will want to hear! \nJoe Napoli\, conductor
