SUMMARY:Hotel Elsinore
DESCRIPTION:“A love letter to theatre itself. For admirers of Hamlet this is a palpable hit!”—Edinburgh Guide \nDenmark. 2:00 a.m. A hotel room. Three weary travelers\, an unexpected will\, and a production of Hamlet to rehearse before morning. \nTragedy and humor converge in this new play about the challenges of relationships\, forgiveness\, and Shakespeare. A real-life family plays the bereaved loved ones of the once-great actor Henry Elder\, who was scheduled to perform his career-defining solo Hamlet at the Elsinore Shakespeare Festival. As they discover\, Henry is determined to not let anything as inconvenient as death prevent him from being there! With Shakespeare’s Hamlet as the spindle around which the family’s story revolves\, this award-winning play is by turns both absurd and poignant. \nMorton Theatre Parking Info

SUMMARY:Ladysmith Black Mambazo
DESCRIPTION:“Theirs is among the most distinctive and uplifting choral sounds around.”—NPR \nThe jubilant and stirring voices of “South Africa’s cultural ambassadors” (Nelson Mandela) combine the complex rhythms and harmonies of Zulu tradition with the sounds and sentiments of gospel music. The group sings a traditional musical style called isicathamiya (Is-Cot-A-Mee-Ya)\, which developed in South African mines where poorly paid Black workers were taken to work far away from their homes. Beautiful a cappella harmonies — made famous on Paul Simon’s Graceland album — frame this five-time Grammy Award-winning ensemble’s message of hope and peace in an unforgettable performance of powerful song. \nPERFORMANCE TALK\nJoin us for a free pre-performance talk in Ramsey Concert Hall from 6:45-7:15 pm.

SUMMARY:Apollon Musagète Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Please note the start time of this performance has been changed to 2:00 p.m. instead of 3:00 p.m.  \n“They performed with unabashed elegance.”—ConcertoNet.com \nBeloved string quartets by friends Brahms and Dvořák bookend this program performed by a Polish quartet praised for “an enormous dynamic range\, an unusual malleability of phrasing\, and a wide palette of color” (Cleveland Classical). Puccini’s sweet elegy “Chrysanthemums” is a palate cleanser. \nPERFORMANCE TALK\nJoin us for a free pre-performance talk by Theresa Chafin in Ramsey Concert Hall from 1:15-1:45 pm.
