SUMMARY:Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (2026)
DESCRIPTION:Due to the concert taking place in nearby Sanford Stadium on Saturday\, April 25\, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s performance in Hodgson Concert Hall has been moved to Wednesday\, April 29\, 7:30 p.m. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. All tickets remain valid for the new date. Ticketholders may contact the Performing Arts Center Box Office (706-542-4400) if you have additional questions.\nQuintet Revelations\nThe piano quintet is a powerhouse chamber ensemble\, combining the sonic richness of a string quartet with the symphonic aura of grand piano. Inspired by Robert Schumann’s early example\, composers from the early Romantic age all the way through the 21st century have contributed significantly to the genre. Russian master Anton Arensky\, teacher of Rachmaninov\, penned his sole quintet in his mature years\, and ever-popular French composer Camille Saint-Saëns began his prolific chamber music career with this early quintet of surprising skill and maturity. Bracing violin duos by virtuosi of the Baroque and Classical eras serve as effervescent preludes. \nCANCELLED: PERFORMANCE TALK\nDue to a scheduling conflict\, the performance talk for this event has been cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience. The performance itself will continue as scheduled.

SUMMARY:Ébène Quartet
DESCRIPTION:“In line with the quartet’s name\, the performance evoked the characteristics of ebony: opaque and dense\, much like the hardwood that gains depth and significance through polishing and appreciation of its intricate grain.”—Bachtrack\nAttending a concert by the French ensemble Quatuor Ébène is a musical experience unlike any other. For 25 years\, this award-winning string quartet has achieved new heights by transforming familiar repertoire into sounds beyond perfection and by constantly seeking a dynamic exchange with themselves and with the audience. The group’s first visit to UGA in 16 years promises to showcase the musicians at their very best\, performing Ravel’s brilliant string quartet alongside two of Beethoven’s iconic works. \nPERFORMANCE TALK\nJoin us for a free pre-performance talk in Hodgson Concert Hall from 6:45-7:15 pm. \nNOTE\nUnfortunately\, the violist Marie Chilemme is unable to participate in the quartet’s spring tour. The wonderful Hélène Clément (former violist of the Doric String Quartet) will take her place for this performance.

SUMMARY:Camerata Nordica Octet
DESCRIPTION:“The Camerata Nordica are Swedish. They are also outstandingly good\, practised and magnetic in performance. Why magnetic? Because the empathy between the players is unique. They have no conductor and rely entirely upon mutual sensitivity\, deeply felt mutual intentions and good old fashioned eye contact and body language. ”—Musical Opinion (UK)\nFounded in 1974\, Camerata Nordica has become Sweden’s leading chamber orchestra. The musicians’ dynamic energy and shared musical purpose form the core of the group’s identity. The ensemble has garnered a reputation for its distinctive performance style\, captivating audiences by performing while standing up and occasionally by heart — as with Mendelssohn’s glorious Octet in E-flat Major\, Op. 20\, which will anchor the group’s first UGA Presents program. \nPart of Nordic Dream: Voices from Denmark\, Finland\, Norway\, and Sweden \nPERFORMANCE TALK\nJoin us for a free pre-performance talk by Theresa Chafin in Ramsey Concert Hall from 6:45-7:15 pm.

SUMMARY:Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Nathalie Stutzmann\, conductor Anna Geniushene\, piano
DESCRIPTION:“The most elegant and articulate words fail to do justice to Stutzmann’s performance. She is a consummate rock star on the podium. With her precise\, yet large and wild articulations\, she doesn’t ‘conduct’ so much as she seizes the full potential of every note and wrenches it loose from the silence that preceded it.”—ArtsATL \nExperience the seismic power of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1\, the ultimate musical thrill ride that surges with staggering virtuosity\, luxuriant melodies\, and thundering orchestral verve. The ASO welcomes the sensational 2022 Van Cliburn medalist Anna Geniushene\, who plays “with an exquisite touch and an almost infinite tonal palette” (La Scena). During the second half\, Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann shifts into the kaleidoscopic world of Maurice Ravel—the ultimate orchestral colorist. Leaning into the limitless nuance of the ASO’s artistry\, she presents three works including La valse\, a haunting\, volcanic dream of a Viennese waltz. \nPERFORMANCE TALK\nJoin us for a free pre-performance talk by Arielle Crumley in Ramsey Concert Hall from 2:15-2:45 pm.

He has won international praise for his passionate performances and deep rich tone which the Washington Post called “mightily impressive\,” and The New York Times described as “muscular with a glint of violence.” The Times has also praised his “handsome technique\, burnished sound\, and quiet confidence\,” and the Strad described his playing as “pure poetry.” \nBeilman has appeared with major orchestras like the Philadelphia Orchestra\, Rotterdam Philharmonic\, and Zurich Tonhalle\, and is on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music. He is dedicated to contemporary music\, with new works by Frederic Rzewski\, Gabriella Smith\, and Jennifer Higdon\, among others. He performs on the 1740 “Ysaÿe” Guarneri del Gesù\, on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation. \nHe made his UGA recital debut in 2014 and maintains an active and illustrious career as a recitalist and musical collaborator—recently touring the United States with the Berlin Philharmonic. \nTaiwanese-born pianist Gloria Chien has one of the most diverse musical lives as a noted performer\, concert presenter\, and educator. SUMMARY:Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at 300 Les Arts Florissants Théotime Langlois de Swarte\, Baroque violin
DESCRIPTION:“Théotime Langlois de Swarte reminds me why I fell in love with the Baroque violin in the first place.”—Gramophone \n“For decades [Les Arts Florissants] have been fulfilling the task of any truly important cultural institution: opening up new worlds of beauty and excitement\, both emotional and intellectual.”—New York Times \nWhen published in 1725 nobody could have imagined Vivaldi’s Opus 8\, Nos. 1-4 (The Four Seasons)\, would become one of the most beloved musical works of all time. Yet today\, 300 years on\, it remains as popular as ever. France’s Baroque supergroup\, Les Arts Florissants\, is joined by extraordinary violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte in a performance commemorating the anniversary of the music’s original publication. The program frames this iconic masterpiece afresh\, setting it alongside music Vivaldi would have known in Venice and compositions which were\, in turn\, inspired by his bold artistic vision. \nPERFORMANCE TALK\nJoin us for a free pre-performance talk by Brian Roach in Ramsey Concert Hall from 6:45-7:15 pm.

DESCRIPTION:We’re sorry to report that violinist Qianqian Li is unable to perform this weekend due to illness. Because of this\, the New York Philharmonic String Quartet will instead perform as a trio. The revised program is included below. The pre-performance talk has been canceled. \n“This quartet offered up some of the most beautiful playing I’ve heard.”—Reading Eagle \nEstablished in 2017 during the New York Philharmonic’s 175th anniversary\, this ensemble includes four principal musicians from its namesake orchestra. The quartet returns to Athens with Haydn’s brilliant and classic Viennese Op. 77\, No. 1 and a Dvořák composition not heard on our stage in at least 15 years.
