The UGA Performing Art Center’s 2019-2020 Season is packed full of dynamic artists from all over the world. From Broadway stars to jazz legends, from dance ensembles to the best of classical music, from world-class theatre to illustrious pianists, there is truly something for everyone to be moved by this season. Let’s discover what performances the PAC Staff is most excited about for the PAC’s 24th Season:

Jeffrey Martin, Director
Must-See Event: Tenebrae
Nov 10, 3:00 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

I have worked with this exquisite British chamber choir on two previous occasions and they never disappoint. Tenebrae truly embodies their tagline, “passion and precision,” and I’m very much looking forward to hearing and seeing them perform Joby Talbot’s epic work, Path of Miracles, in Hodgson Concert Hall.”

Blake H. Schneider, Assistant Director
Must-See Event: An Evening with Sutton Foster
Sept 28, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

“I cannot wait to hear Sutton Foster in Hodgson Hall!  When I lived in NYC I was able to see her Tony Award-winning performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie several times and later saw her incredible portrayal of ‘Jo’ in Little Women.  Her energy and talent blow me away every time – and I love that she’s a Georgia girl and even lived in Athens as a kid!”

Carlton Bain, Director of Development
Must-See Event: The Kingdom Choir
Apr 28, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

“I am most excited about experiencing The Kingdom Choir on their first visit to the USA.  Their mix of Christian gospel and popular music is sure to attract all walks of life from our community!  As a special treat for our local school children, The Kingdom Choir is performing a concert just for them, we call these Performances for Young People. They are my favorite performances, because they educate, entertain, and inspire young minds.”

Miranda Wilson, House Manager & Outreach Coordinator
Must-See Events: An Evening with Sutton Foster
Sept 28, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

Patti LuPone: Don’t Monkey with Broadway
Apr 24, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

Macbeth by Out of Chaos
Oct 16, 7:30 pm, Morton Theatre

“I am so excited for the two Broadway legends (somewhat) bookending our 2019-2020 season, Sutton Foster and Patti LuPone! I grew up in musical theatre and to be able to see these two powerhouse female performers up close and personal doing what they do best is super exciting. I’m also looking forward to Macbeth. Shakespeare was one of my first loves and I’m looking forward to witnessing such a unique interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s most famous works.”

Bobby Tyler, Marketing and Media Relations Director
Must-See Event: Patti LuPone: Don’t Monkey with Broadway
Apr 24, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

It is hard to pick a single event, but the one I am especially looking forward to is Patti LuPone. Not only is she a Broadway legend, but she also has a reputation for being quite outspoken and she is not one to suffer fools gladly. I recently watched an amusing video on YouTube where she snatches the phone out of the hands of an audience member who had been texting throughout the play. So we’d better be sure to put away our cellphones when she comes to Hodgson Hall!”

Tim Wells, Publications Manager
Must-See Event: Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder
Oct 26, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

The acoustics in Hodgson Hall are incredible. That’s why I can’t wait to see and hear legendary Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder perform bluegrass magic on Oct. 26. This Grammy-Award winning group is guaranteed to make you fall in love with bluegrass.”

Dee Hayman, Box Office Manager
Must-See Event: Atlanta Symphony with Emanuel Ax
Nov 24, 3:00 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

“The performer I am most anticipating is Emanuel Ax.  Having been to a prior concert of his, I am so looking forward to experiencing the unique way he articulates a phrase.  He is a master of a musical intersection of talent and expression of feeling; thereby, making so much more of a piano than I believe it was even designed to produce.”

Bekah Morgan, Assistant Box Office Manager
Must-See Event: An Evening with Sutton Foster
Sept 28, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

“Who wouldn’t want to see a 2 time Tony Award winner, 6 time Tony Award nominee in action?  Sutton Foster commands the stage with both her voice and her presence.  She is a once in a generation talent that I never thought I’d get to see perform live.  From Thoroughly Modern Millie to Shrek to The Music Man (opening on Broadway in October 2020), her talent, drive, and passion are clear every time she steps on the stage.  This is one show-stopper you DO NOT want to miss!”

Graf Imhoof, Production Manager
Must-See Event: Curtis Symphony Orchestra with Jonathan Biss
Feb 3, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

Curtis Symphony Orchestra with Jonathan Biss performing Beethoven and Sibelius in a room designed and built for acoustic music = top tier musicians playing world class music in a premier concert hall.  I love it when the stars align with the potential to create a once-in-a-lifetime concert event.”

James Sewell, Stage Manager
Must-See Event: Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn
May 9, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

“I’m thrilled to have Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn coming back to the PAC to finish out what promises to be an extraordinary concert season!  The artists we present always have something unique and exquisite to share with the audience, and Béla and Abigail are certainly no exception.  They have built their lives and their family around the expression of beautiful music. While they achieve a worldly relevance in pulling influences from many genres, seeing them in concert is an intimate experience more likened to sitting on a neighbor’s porch and listening to old friends enjoying life and communicating to each other through song.”

Megan Alexis Lee, Production Assistant
Must-See Event: The Last Great Hunt’s New Owner
Feb 7, 7:00 pm, Ramsey Concert Hall

“I’m really looking forward to New Owner. We had them in last season for Alvin Sputnik, which was my favorite show of the previous season with the unique visuals, a heartbreaking story, and absolutely lovely performers. I cried backstage, and I’m pretty sure I will again.”

Laura Floyd, UGA Undergraduate Student & Student House Manager
Must-See Event: The Second City
Apr 3-4, Ramsey Concert Hall

“Try leaving a Second City performance without laughing until your ribs hurt. I always look forward to when The Second City comes to the Performing Arts Center because of the group’s wit, comedic timing, energy, and star-power!”

Colleen Chester, UGA Graduate Student & Student Box Office Manager
Must-See Event: The Kingdom Choir
Apr 28, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

“I was incredibly moved by The Kingdom Choir’s performance at the recent Royal wedding. I am so looking forward to their program and appreciate the immense diversity in this season at the Performing Arts Center! There are so many extraordinary acts this season — it’s hard to choose just one that I’m looking forward to the most!”

Camryn Cobb, UGA Undergraduate Student & Student Box Office Manager
Must-See Event: Che Malambo
Feb 21, 7:30 pm, Hodgson Concert Hall

“If you love rhythm and dance, then you’re not going to want to miss out on seeing Che Malambo. As someone who is captivated by dance and percussion ensembles, I cannot help but be excited to witness this group’s fiery choreography, illustrious whirling boleadoras, and drumming live and in-person in Hodgson Concert Hall!”
