The UGA Performing Art Center’s 2019-2020 Season is packed full of dynamic artists from all over the world. From Broadway stars to jazz legends, from dance ensembles to the best of classical music, from world-class theatre to illustrious pianists, there is truly something for everyone to be moved by this season. “I have worked with this exquisite British chamber choir on two previous occasions and they never disappoint. Tenebrae truly embodies their tagline, “passion and precision,” and I’m very much looking forward to hearing and seeing them perform Joby Talbot’s epic work, Path of Miracles, in Hodgson Concert Hall.”

“I cannot wait to hear Sutton Foster in Hodgson Hall! When I lived in NYC I was able to see her Tony Award-winning performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie several times and later saw her incredible portrayal of ‘Jo’ in Little Women. Her energy and talent blow me away every time – and I love that she’s a Georgia girl and even lived in Athens as a kid!”

“I am most excited about experiencing The Kingdom Choir on their first visit to the USA. Their mix of Christian gospel and popular music is sure to attract all walks of life from our community! As a special treat for our local school children, The Kingdom Choir is performing a concert just for them, we call these Performances for Young People. They are my favorite performances, because they educate, entertain, and inspire young minds.”

“I am so excited for the two Broadway legends (somewhat) bookending our 2019-2020 season, Sutton Foster and Patti LuPone! I grew up in musical theatre and to be able to see these two powerhouse female performers up close and personal doing what they do best is super exciting. I’m also looking forward to Macbeth. Shakespeare was one of my first loves and I’m looking forward to witnessing such a unique interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s most famous works.”

Must-See Event: Patti LuPone: Don’t Monkey with Broadway

“It is hard to pick a single event, but the one I am especially looking forward to is Patti LuPone. Not only is she a Broadway legend, but she also has a reputation for being quite outspoken and she is not one to suffer fools gladly. I recently watched an amusing video on YouTube where she snatches the phone out of the hands of an audience member who had been texting throughout the play. So we’d better be sure to put away our cellphones when she comes to Hodgson Hall!”

“I’m thrilled to have Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn coming back to the PAC to finish out what promises to be an extraordinary concert season! The artists we present always have something unique and exquisite to share with the audience, and Béla and Abigail are certainly no exception. They have built their lives and their family around the expression of beautiful music. While they achieve a worldly relevance in pulling influences from many genres, seeing them in concert is an intimate experience more likened to sitting on a neighbor’s porch and listening to old friends enjoying life and communicating to each other through song.”

Must-See Event: The Last Great Hunt’s New Owner

“I’m really looking forward to New Owner. We had them in last season for Alvin Sputnik, which was my favorite show of the previous season with the unique visuals, a heartbreaking story, and absolutely lovely performers. I cried backstage, and I’m pretty sure I will again.”
