Dailey & Vincent

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7, 8PM
HODGSON CONCERT HALL

With ten International Bluegrass Music Association Awards in 2008 and 2009, including Entertainer of the Year for two years and Album of the Year in 2008, the New York Times calls Dailey & Vincent "the most celebrated new bluegrass act of the last few years." Headed by Jamie Dailey (formerly of Doyle Lawson's Quicksilver) and Darrin Vincent (formerly of Ricky Skaggs' Kentucky Thunder), the band is known for the uncanny harmony of their vocals, impeccable arrangements, and flawless performances. Both of their most recent albums, Brothers from Different Mothers and Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers, have hit No. 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts. This is bluegrass at its best . . . pure bluegrass gold.

Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24, 7:30PM
HODGSON CONCERT HALL

Taking its name from the ancient Filipino tradition of Bayanihan, which signifies working together for the common good, the story of the Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company spans more than forty years of performances all over the world in fifty countries on five continents. Tribal folklore and ethnic rites come to life in a colorful whirl of constantly changing choreographic patterns, stirring music, and beautiful costumes trimmed with embroidery, seashells, satin, straw, feathers, and frilled lace. This is an evening to remember, and you'll agree with the critic of the Washington Post, who wrote following a recent performance, "Bayanihan is looking as pretty and gracious as ever."

Tango Buenos Aires

SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 8PM
HODGSON CONCERT HALL

"Repeatedly swirling, fast-paced tapestries of movement, laced with proud postures and sensual couplings." That's how the Washington Post describes Tango Buenos Aires. Direct from Buenos Aires, it's one of the most exciting performances of the season. Founded twenty-five years ago by the famous composer and director, Osvaldo Requena, Tango Buenos Aires has become known throughout the Americas, Europe, and the Far East as one of Argentina's most important cultural exports and one of the world's most authentic representatives of the Tango. The fast and furious interplay of the dancers' feet and legs . . . sometimes playful, sometimes dramatic, always sensuous . . . will captivate you.
