Joseph Young, Conductor
Stephen Hough, Piano
Stephen Hough has been called a true “Renaissance man of his time.” Aside from his brilliant career as a pianist, Hough is a uniquely insightful composer and writer. In 2001, he was the first classical performing artist to win a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, the so-called “Genius Grant.” Conductor Joseph Young, who was a hit in last year’s ASO New Year’s Eve concert, returns to Hodgson Hall for the all-Rachmaninoff concert. Hough is soloist in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the program also includes Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise and the exciting Symphonic Dances.
Enjoy a pre-concert lecture by Ken Meltzer, author of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s program notes and host of the weekly radio show, “Meet the Classics,” on Atlanta’s AM-1690. The lecture begins 45 minutes prior to the concert.
